Background:
Miriam is a 54 year old female with a resting heart rate of 80, resting blood pressure normal, slightly elevated cholesterol level, no medication, the doctor recommends changing her eating habits and begin a sensible fitness routine. She used to belong to a gym several years ago and attended fitness classes, and enjoyed them but with her minor joint aches, the occasional knee pain and her regularly sore neck, she felt it necessary to seek a softer environment & some professional advise. Also, Miriam’s lower back bothers her on occasion, but it is not considered chronic by her doctor. Miriam suffers from tension headaches. She works at a computer 8 or more hours in a day as an executive in a busy, fast paced and high stress environment for over 10 years. Miriam rarely takes weekends off, as there is always something to catch up on in the office, and computers are portable! Miriam sleeps an average of 5 to 6 hours a night, waking up once or twice in the evening but falls back to sleep after a few moments. After discussing nutrition, we find that Miriam rarely eats breakfast, drinks an average of 3 - 4 coffees per day, does not really drink water and sometimes skips lunch and nibbles on dinner. Miriam is very tired. She has been in menopause for 5 years, and does not have any symptoms. Miriam would like to reduce her mid-line. Miriam has become so used to her aches and pains that she takes this as part of life. She would like to know, with a very tired, hopeful smile - can you help her?
